Things people scream you should do

Hey Reader,

The wonderful thing about running an online service business is that there aren't really any rules.

There are things that some people might say you can't do, like run a group programme for 4 people (I did this in 2020), or have a podcast that is private (helloooo 10ish) but usually they are saying that because they are parroting what someone else "higher up" than them has told them to do.

I like being experimental and trying new things so that I can confidently say to my clients what my own experience has been.

So. I know that working together for 3 months will get you some results but working together for 6 is infinitely better. I do have days available but they have to be sup[er specific as I don't think you can get much done inn a stand alone day.

My business model is almost exclusively 1:1 because I like to shout about results - and it is a testament to the relationships I build that 85% of the 1:1 clients I started my business with in July are about to renew and continue working with me in some capacity for another 3-6 months.

People scream at you that you *should*

  • build a group programme
  • build an evergreen funnel
  • build a paid community
  • join a mastermind
  • write a book
  • start a podcast

But what if you're quite happy doing what you're doing?

That's ok by me!

However I'd love you to be able to maximise your opportunity with whatever your unique business model is.

How does that look for me?

All my client calls are done by Monday at 3pm (save for one client who is a night owl) because that means the rest of the week I can get excited about creating and ideating.

I have a membership but there is no teaching from me or others; I know how important it is to have the space to do the work that other memberships put upon you.

I'm about to start an evergreen funnel for a very low cost product that will help my people get their stuff done in a low touch way, even lower than the membership.

And that's it. Coz when I actually asked my clients, they know what they need to do they just need some help unjumbling it all and then being reminded to do it.

Need a bit of help with your business model? Here's the 5 things I would do to start (an a bonus little download)

  1. Conduct a SWOT Analysis: Start with a thorough SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. This helps in identifying the internal and external factors impacting your business. Focus on strengths to leverage opportunities, use weaknesses to anticipate challenges, and recognise threats to avoid potential pitfalls.
  2. Review Customer Feedback and Market Trends: Analyse customer feedback, reviews, and testimonials to understand their needs and satisfaction levels. Additionally, keep an eye on market trends. This can reveal if your business model is aligned with current market demands, and what adjustments might be necessary to stay relevant and competitive.
  3. Financial Performance Analysis: Evaluate the financial health of your business. Look at key financial indicators such as revenue trends, profit margins, cash flow, and expenses. This assessment helps in identifying areas where the business is performing well financially and areas where efficiency can be improved.
  4. Analyse Your Efficiency: Examine your business operations for efficiency and effectiveness. Identify any processes that are outdated, costly, or time-consuming. This includes reviewing your supply chain, production processes, and delivery mechanisms. Streamlining operations can lead to cost savings and improved customer satisfaction.
  5. Assess Your Competitive Positioning: Understand where your business stands in comparison to competitors. Analyse their strategies, strengths, and weaknesses to identify your unique selling proposition (USP). This assessment helps in refining your marketing strategies and enhancing your product or service offerings to stand out in the market.

I created this at the end of last year to help with pricing, but the Porter's Five Forces Model in the appendix could really help with your competitive positioning.

What's your business model like? If you're feeling stuck, it's a great place to start.

Hey Reader, Welcome to Friday - we made it! In what is becoming a regular feature, in the last week I hit a big income milestone and I wanted to break it down for you so that you can see the volume that is needed when creating stuff people want to buy. I started this business with the thought that I would do done for you services if the project was exciting, and that is exactly how it has run to now. I rarely speak about this as I am almost always fully booked, but I set up leads tracking and...

Hey Reader, Are you asking regularly for feedback? I know it can call to our very worst fears, wanting to know what people think. But in reality - it's going to enhance everything you do. I have rarely been asked for feedback in any of the things I have taken part in. Which is a shame as I think often it would have helped the course creator make things better. Example... For my experimental 100 reps from September to December 2023 I put together a coworking calendar which held space for 100...

Hey Reader, Remember four years ago when we hadn’t heard of C***d-19, pandemics were things that happened in video games and no one knew that you could sing happy birthday when washing your hands? 2020 took it’s toll on everyone, and as a result I declared that in 2021 my word of the year would be selfish. I started saying no to the things that I felt obliged to do, I declined voice notes and DMs, I explained I didn’t like hugs and also left gatherings when I wanted to without feeling guilty....
